Although the history of crocheted bead rope is unclear, we first came upon it in an isolated area halfway between St. Petersburg and Moscow. We use glass seed beads from both Central Europe and Japan. Since there are approximately 135 beads per inch, our pieces, which measure up to 33 inches in lenght, can have well over 4,000 beads making up their design. It takes seven steps to set each bead in its place and it can easily take upwards of three days to complete a long necklace. The core of each piece has a spiral of tautly twisted, size 30, polyester thread interlocking each bead, which insures an unparalleled strength and longevity for these potential heirlooms.
